Be careful, new radars are coming and they are formidable!

England is currently testing a new type of radar that works using artificial intelligence (AI). These are incredibly effective! Could we see the latter arriving very soon in France?

On the A30 motorway linking London to Cornwall, near the city of Launceston, a new type of radar is currently tested. These work with a artificial intelligence.

Very simple operation.

A camera fixed in height films the road. The latter is equipped with an infrared flash as well as a high shutter speed to take clear pictures vehicles passing below.

The collected images are then analyzed by an AI to detect possible violations. Once the AI unseals a traffic violation on the part of a motorist, the images are captured et stored. Then it’s a human who takes over and examines the images to confirm or not the offence.

According to the BBCif the motorist has been clearly identified in violation, the latter receives a warning letter or a summons to court. It all depends on the seriousness of the offence.

Formidable efficiency

Quite simply, this new radar recorded almost 297 infractions after only 72 hours of installation, underlines the BBC. Still according to the British media, of these 297 offences, the artificial intelligence system spotted 117 motorists using their phone driving and 180 not wearing their seatbelt.

AI at the heart of surveillance

The important information to remember, in addition to the effectiveness of this new type of radar, is the increasingly strong presence of artificial intelligence in the surveillance systems of the world. In fact, AI is making a big name for itself in a lot of domain and not just in surveillance.

We can cite the Chinese system dubbed “Big Brotherwhich is sort of the most extreme version of surveillance. A kind of Dark Vador de l’IA. Surveillance systems similar to the English radar also exist in the metro Barcelonans et New Yorker who spot them fraudsters.

And how not to mention the project currently under study in France to use facial recognition for Paris Olympic Games in 2024. We can very well imagine that a radar system similar to the one currently being tested in England could soon be under consideration for a upcoming installation in France.
