Audi is preparing a somewhat special farewell for its R8

Audi announces on Instagram that it plans ” something special “. According to the manufacturer, “this is the last lap of the R8 track”. It is on September 12 at 3 p.m. French time that the firm with the rings should thus reveal the ultimate thermal Audi R8 in history.

The images from the teaser that you can see by following this link show an R8 camouflaged with several blocks of red, black and silver rectangles. At the rear, we can glimpse a small spoiler signed Audi Sport. From what the manufacturer shows, this model does not look very different from the existing version.

Even more powerful than the GT?

The Audi R8 GT was therefore not the swan song for the German supercar. However, it looked like it, since only 333 copies were produced. Its naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 develops 620 chall sent to the rear wheels alone.

This new R8 GT goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, and crosses the 200 km/h mark in just 10.1 seconds, all for a maximum speed of 320 km/h.

An electric future for the Audi R8?

The future of the R8 is very uncertain. Audi is reportedly developing an electric version. However, the new model could be completely different. It could share the platform with the future replacement for the 718 Boxster which, for its part, will officially be 100% electric from 2025.

Unlike previous generations of the R8, Lamborghini does not intend to follow Audi and intends to offer a replacement for the Huracan with a heat engine. For what ? Because the Italian firm has earned so much money in recent years that it no longer necessarily needs to pool with another manufacturer to design some of its cars.
