BMW iDrive: focus on the next generation of the infotainment system

At the 2023 Munich Motor Show, the German manufacturer is announcing the next generation of the BMW iDrive infotainment system: an overview of its new features.

The Bavarian firm is currently presenting, at the Munich Motor Show 2023, a preview of the future of its models planned from 2025, with the BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept car, which is equipped with the next generation of the infotainment system. BMW iDrive.

With this new version of its iDrive system, BMW aims to transform vehicles into a digital experience spacewith a concept of display and control allowing new types of interactions between the driver and his car.

BMW iDrive: a new experience on board

The new BMW iDrive system is characterized by four elements : the central touch screen, the multifunction steering wheel, the 3D head-up display, as well as the BMW Panoramic Visionwhich as its name suggests is a panoramic screen located at the base of the windshield, and which is aimed at both the driver and the passengers.

This BMW Panoramic Vision is complemented by a new generation of3D head-up display which projects useful information while driving on the windscreen, directly in the driver’s field of vision, such as navigation instructions or driving aids, in the form of 3D animations.

In addition, future BMWs will have a new multifunction steering wheelwith integrated controls, haptic feedback and multi-layered technology, allowing control of the BMW Panoramic Vision and 3D head-up display, without taking your eyes off the road, for added safety.

A matrix-backlit touchscreen

Finally, the new central touch screen has a unique design and intuitive touch controls. Whatever the outdoor lighting conditions, the on-board matrix backlighting technology enables a high resolution display, brilliant colors and strong contrast.

The future BMW iDrive system will use a new software architecture, as well as the new generation of the operating system BMW Olympicsintelligently connected to the BMW Cloud as well as the user’s digital ecosystem, for more interactive and immersive operation.
