As the price of fuel goes up, the French are asking the government to bring back the discount. But it is not won.
For more than a year, the price of fuel has undergone an incredible surge, which we owe in large part to the war in Ukraine, but not only. Indeed, many reasons explain this increase, including taxation, with taxes that represent not less than 60% of the liter gasoline and diesel. But that’s not all, because we also have to deal with a drop in production, associated with an increase in demand. This creates an explosive cocktail, to the detriment of course of motorists. This was all the more the case during the holidays, when prices soared during the summer. And they shouldn’t be going down anytime soon.

This obviously greatly complicates the lives of the French, many of whom are now forced to reduce their travel. Our colleagues from BFM TV then conducted an extensive investigation to take the temperature of the latter. And the least we can say is that motorists are back. According to the study, 63% of them believe that the return of a discount on fuel would be necessary, even if this has consequences for public expenditure. An idea supported by 70% of 25-34 year olds and inhabitants of rural communities, forced to take their car often.
78% of French people now say they are forced to having to tighten one’s belt, of which 29% have to do a lot and 49% a little. So much so that 40% were forced to give up buying certain food products and 27% to heat their homes properly. Worse still, 20% had to reduce their medical care. And the government in all this? For the moment, the latter refuses to bring back any aid, preferring to ask distributors to make efforts by reducing their margins.
