Mercedes is rolling out a remote software update to its MBUX infotainment system, which affects no less than 700,000 vehicles worldwide.
Until November 2023, Mercedes offers its customers equipped with the second generation MBUX systemi.e. not less than 700,000 vehicles in the world, to remotely download a new update of the MBUX entertainment system, which bears the number of version 2.4 : this one brings its share of new functionalities.
“Our in-house developed Mercedes-Benz software enables excellent in-flight entertainment, immersive Dolby Atmos sound, video streaming and enhanced navigation experiences. Equipped with our pioneering MBUX infotainment system, our vehicles meet the rapidly changing wishes of our customers worldwide through regular feature updates”declared on this occasion Magnus Östberg, Director of Software Development at Mercedes-Benz.
The new functionalities relate in particular to in-car entertainment, with the arrival of new options for streaming vidéosuch as the YouTube Web application, or the sound Dolby Atmoswhich brings more space, clarity and depth to the music.
Another novelty of the software update concerns thefront passenger screen : now, it is possible for him to control the audio system of the car, and to broadcast music, films and television programs in the passenger compartment, without necessarily using headphones. Users can also select the wallpaper of their choice displayed on the front passenger screen, thanks to the Mercedes Me app.
This update also brings the latest version of NewsFlash, an application that allows occupants to listen to news bulletins on news, business, finance, sports, culture, and more. All you have to do is use the MBUX voice assistant by saying “Hey Mercedes, listen to the news”. L’application Tourguide also arrives in France: it is a travel companion which allows for example to listen to useful information on the places crossed (castles, museums and other tourist sites) when one passes in front of brown panels on Highway.
In addition, vehicles equipped with the first generation MBUX system will have access to the functionality « Place Details » provided by Google, and already available in the second generation MBUX. It allows you to consult detailed information on more than 200 million places in the world (companies, stores, restaurants, etc.) in order to find out about opening hours, photos, opinions and comments.
The update 2.4 MBUX entertainment software can be downloaded remotely (or OTA for Over-The-Air), without requiring a visit to the workshop, on several models of vehicles in the Mercedes range. The availability and the functionalities provided depend on the market, the vehicle model as well as the configurations of each vehicle. A notification informs the user that the update is available for his vehicle, directly by a notification on his touch screen.
