He takes a fine for having greeted the police by honking!

Fabrice did not expect to be fined after wanting to say hello to the police by honking on the road to Brussels…

If you want to play with fire, you risk getting burned. That’s what Fabrice must have said to himself when the policemen who stood near a mobile speed camera addressed to him a fine. The reason ? The police simply did not appreciate this motorist honking their horn. Even if the driver claims to have committed such an act “to say hello to them”, the police enforced the law to the letter. The horn is reserved for emergencies and in no case to use it at all costs.

Fined for blowing the horn!

The facts took place on September 3, on the E40 motorway leading to Brussels. As he arrived in the town of Awans, Fabrice came across a mobile radar, with two inspectors posed on the edge of the road. The motorist then decides to press his horn twice to greet the police. He confides in the media: “I wanted to say hello to them by doing ‘tûût, tûût’ (…) I simply wanted to greet them”.

In defense of the police, it is quite complicated to interpret the intentions of a horn. The latter believed in a provocation and decided to crack down by strictly applying the Highway Code. What was only a mark of politeness, according to the offender, turned out to be grounds for punishment. And the addition was salty to say the least, given thatit amounted to 67 euros. All that for having honked, accompanied by his wife in the car, in order to greet the police. You should know that the law indicates that honking is only reserved for emergencies and warnings (such as avoiding an accident, warning that you are going to overtake when you are outside built-up areas, etc.).

Difficult to detect the true from the false, except that the fine is very real and that it will have to be regulated. According to Benoît Godard, of the Vias institute, the fine is logical: ” It’s provocation. Imagine if all motorists passed by a speed camera, whether fixed or mobile, and honked their horns. The police but also the residents would not appreciate. So, in the case at hand, I understand that the motorist received a report”. In any case, Fabrice will be much less euphoric the next time he meets the police on the side of the road… And you? Are you using the horn wisely?
