For many years now, Paris City Hall has wanted to eliminate cars from the streets of the capital. For this, all means are good, such as the removal of lanes on the banks, the installation of the Crit’Air sticker or even excessive pedestrianization. But that’s not all, because for nine years now, car traffic has also been banned for one day every year. This is Car Free Day, which is making a comeback this Sunday September 17. On its website, the Paris town hall explains that “ like last year, the entire city will be reserved for non-polluting traffic, bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, skateboards and longboards… but also for pedestrians and public transport users“. In other words, thermal and even electric cars will be completely prohibited, as will motorcycles and scooters. Only taxis, VTCs and emergency vehicles will be authorized, but at a maximum speed of 30 km/h. Buses will also be allowed to travel, but again at a reduced speed.
If you live in Paris and you have to travel by car in the capital that day, you will need a proof of address and above all a good reason. In fact, only urgent travel will be tolerated, such as a medical problem or childbirth. Parisians returning from the weekend will also have to prove that they live in the area concerned. In case of non-compliance, drivers face a fine of 135 euros. Suffice to say that it will be better to comply with the rules…
