Fuel: the government puts pressure on distributors

While the government refuses to help motorists, it nevertheless wants to put pressure on distributors.

For several months, tension has been rising. Indeed, although it has been more than a year since the price of fuel increased sharply throughout France, motorists have rather adapted to the situation. But this is slowly changing, as discontent begins to be expressed. Indeed, according to a recent survey, 63% of French people are calling for the establishment ofa discount on gasoline and diesel in government. However, the latter categorically refuses to help motorists again after last year’s rebate. In fact, he asserts that this is not his doing.

An effort of solidarity

Indeed, for several months, the State has been castigating distributors, accused of displaying too high a margin. And this despite the numerous promotional offers put in place by them over the past months. But the government does not budge and refuses to give in and above all to come to the aid of drivers. Instead, the Minister of Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher wants to increase pressure on gas stations and oil groups. The latter in fact spoke at the microphone of France Inter on this subject a few days ago.

Extra pressure

She explains that “ I will bring together the distributors next Tuesday and I ask them for an effort of solidarity“. She continues: “ certain distributors have carried out operations at cost price (…) and I will ask them to extend this type of operation because I think that the French do not have the space to pay more for fuel and that this is not the kind of subject on which these actors must make a significant margin“. On the other hand, no question of putting in place any help.
