Volkswagen ID.X Performance Concept: a 550 hp electric sedan in preparation?

Despite a switch to electric, Volkswagen will continue to offer sporty models, like this concept announcing a spicy ID.7.

Every year, Volkswagen chooses the ID gathering. Treffen of Locarno, Switzerland, as the backdrop to unveil electrifying versions of its vehicles.

After surprising enthusiasts with an off-road variant of its ID.4 SUV the previous year, the German manufacturer this time presented a sporty model with the ID.X Performance Concept, a spicy incarnation of the new ID .7.

The most extravagant electric Volkswagen

The ID.X Performance Concept shares the same platform as the ID.7 electric sedan, but it offers a radically different experience. Under its hood, we find two electric motors developing a total power of 550 hp distributed to all four wheels.

Aesthetically, the concept is lowered compared to the production model, while the 20-inch rims are shod with semi-slick tires. The massive rear wing, although spectacular, will probably not be there if a production version were to see the light of day, in particular with these swan-neck style supports, which we find in particular on certain Porsches.

A much less powerful production version?

While the ID.X Performance Concept remains a bold and unlikely styling exercise as a production model, it provides a glimpse into what Volkswagen envisions for the future of the ID.7 range.

The Wolfsburg brand plans to launch a GTX version in the near future. This variant will be equipped with two electric motors, offering power in excess of 300 horsepower.

In France, the base ID.7 is sold at a price slightly above 62,000 euros. A fairly high entry price, which suggests a pretty crazy price if an ID.7 GTX were to see the light of day in the coming months.
