Porsche and Audi recall their electric cars

Audi and Porsche are recalling their e-Tron GT and Taycan due to a fire risk on certain examples.

THE recall campaign are very common in the automotive field. And that’s rather reassuring, because it means that manufacturers are keen to resolve problems which can sometimes be serious for the cars but also for those who drive them. Especially since the support is completely free for owners, since the repairs are taken care of by the manufacturer itself. And no brand is spared, even the most high-end. We particularly remember a campaign organized by Ferrari due to a defective brake fluid cap a few months earlier.

A vast reminder

This time, not one but two brands are concerned. And that’s normal, because they have cars with many elements in common, including the platform. These are the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT, which are based on the same technical base and carry the same batteries. So obviously, both are affected when there is a mechanical problem, which is the case this time. But what is it about? In fact, there is a risk of internal liquid leaking into the battery, which can lead to overheating as well as fire in some cases, which should remain very rare.

In the USA

If the manufacturer had already upgraded the battery to correct the problem, the latter is not yet completely resolved. In total, no less than 4,777 Taycans and 1,899 e-trons are affected by this problem, for the moment only in the United States. But it is not guaranteed that European customers will be as affected. In any case, the manufacturer will not fail to notify them if this is the case. In any case, the operation will be the responsibility of the brand.
