A group of environmentalists claims responsibility for the fire of around ten Teslas

German environmentalists have claimed responsibility for the attack on a Tesla dealership in the city of Frankfurt, which resulted in the burning of 15 brand cars.

A fire, which broke out in a parking lot in the Fechenheim district of Frankfurt, Germany, destroyed ten Tesla Model Ys and damaged five others earlier this week in what appears to be an act of “social resistance” by from an anonymous group which considers the American manufacturer as one of its “most important enemies”according to local media.

THE Frankfurt fire brigade specified that their control center had received a call on Tuesday September 12, 2023, around 3:20 a.m. reporting that a fire had broken out in a parking lot on rue Waechtersbacher. The fire had spread to several cars before the arrival of firefighters, who came with special respiratory protection and five vehicles. The nearby railway line was temporarily closed for approximately 30 minutes.

Around 4:30 a.m., the fire was extinguished and the first vehicles left the scene, but the site remained under surveillance because it existed a greater risk of fire resuming for electric cars.

Tesla, the enemy of environmentalists

Later, an anonymous letter titled « Tesla flambé » is published by a group of environmentalists on the Indymedia platform, claiming responsibility for the fire and asserting that Tesla is one of the “most important enemies”.

“The company represents like no other the ideology of green capitalism and the ongoing global and colonial destruction. Electric motors are constantly presented as a clean alternative. This is a cynical lie. Like other companies, Tesla mines resources around the world. Raw materials needed for electric car batteries, such as lithium and cobalt, are extracted under terrible conditions in Latin America and Africa. »

Porsches also targeted

On the same platform, considered by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution as the “reference” media for the German left-wing extremist scene, the group published another press release in which it assumes responsibility for « deflate the tires of 51 Porsche vehicles parked in Berlin » in protest against the German manufacturer.

Police say the fire caused estimated damage at around 537,000 dollars (500,000 euros) and indicates that an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause.
