As the price of fuel rises further, should we expect the return of state aid? Nothing is less sure…
Will the situation finally improve? At the moment, nothing suggests this. Indeed, for several months, the price of fuel has been at its highest and shows no signs of falling. The reasons are multiple, starting with the embargo put in place by the European Union on Russian oil, while other producing countries have reduced their exports. Added to this is the increase in demand, especially during the summer holidays. Not to mention taxes, which represent no less than 60% of the price of the liter. And there is no question for the government of making the slightest move to reduce them.

For several weeks, French motorists have been asking the latter to put in place new aid, like the discount applied last year. But the State continues to refuse, preferring to ask distributors to cut back on their margin, which is only 1% to 3% on average. Some have still accepted, including Leclerc and TotalEnergies, which caps its prices. But this remains insufficient for drivers, who are asking for more even though their budget is strongly impacted by this increase. But then, when will a fuel check be returned from the government?
In fact, it will not be impossible for it to come back according to Frédéric Plan, general delegate of the French Federation of Combustibles, Carburants and Heating, interviewed by Europe 1. The latter explains that the government could easily put in place such aid, which only targets the most modest households. But for the moment, the State is not commenting on the subject and does not seem to want to put its hand in its pocket to help motorists.
