This car goes from 0 to 100 km/h in less than a second

A new car comes to challenge the overpowering Rimac Nevera and others Tesla Model S Plaid. No, this is not a supercar costing several million euros, but an “experimental” car built by Swiss students.

The one you see in the photo is called “Mythen” and was designed by a group of students from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and the University of Lucerne, with the aim of establishing the acceleration record for the exercise from 0 to 100 km/h.

Faster than the best supercars

The working group, called Academic Motorsports Club Zurich (AMZ), took about a year to develop a car capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just nine tenths of a second, or 0.956 seconds to be precisethus beating the previous world record of 1.461 seconds, set in September 2022 by a team from the University of Stuttgart.

This breathtaking acceleration surpasses the times claimed by the McMurtry Speirling and other Rimac Neveras, to name but a few. The former is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.4 seconds, while the Nevera achieves this milestone in 1.81 seconds. Even the Formula E cars are “slower”, with a time of 2.8 seconds.

A car that is lighter than powerful

The students developed the car relying solely on their knowledge and equipment provided by universities. The car only weighs 309 kgthanks to a lightweight carbon and aluminum honeycomb structure, and has a 326 ch.

The car, the size of a kart, comes out like a bullet and takes only 12.3 meters to beat the record, without the need for a circuit or an airplane runway. How long will the record last? A few months, or even a few years, at best, but with the advent of the electric car and its intrinsic technical capabilities, it’s a safe bet that another group of students is looking to do even better.
