A truck too high, an inattentive driver

You should know that this Couzon-au-Mont-d’Or bridge, north of the metropolis of Lyon, is known for the numerous accidents it has caused. This time, it was a home shopping delivery driver who paid the price. Apparently in a hurry, he followed Google Maps without paying attention to the signs. There bridge barrier came to hit the top of his truck.

A predictable accident

The irony is that the law enforcement were already on site at the time of the accident. And for good reason, when it was 2:30 p.m., the police commander answered questions from journalists, intrigued by the accidents around this bridge. Eric Fantin confirms: “In 2021, a 20-ton truck drove through it and a loud crack was heard throughout the city. That’s where it all started. As on the Tassin or Condrieu bridges, these are problems that we often encounter. Since the start of the year, it has happened around twenty times that an oversized truck has taken this historic bridge over the Saône, which dates from 1840.

Around 3 p.m., the delivery man’s truck hit the bridge and trapped his vehicle under the barrier. The panel “prohibited for vehicles over 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes” was of no use. As he was about to turn around, the police arrested him. Even though he explained that he was in a hurry and had followed his GPS, he had to pay a fine of 90 euros. An expansion of the bridge is planned but, in the meantime, the barrier will have to be repaired.
