Parking: in which cities is it most expensive?

Do we pay more for parking in Rennes than in Grenoble? In which city has it increased the most? The 2023 Zenpark barometer highlights major inequalities in France…

Zenpark is a platform specializing in parking space rental: for an hour, a day, or even a month! It offers more than 12,000 parking spaces in 200 cities in France and Belgium.. It is from this data that it produces each year a large barometer which allows us to see the evolution of the prices applied in cities for parking. Like every year, there are great disparities between the metropolises and cities of France, and sometimes obvious changes from one city to another! Here are the big lessons we can learn…

Paris bad student, Marseille good student

As you can imagine, at the top of the rankings Paris is the most expensive city to park: count on €5 on average to park for only one hour on the road! Grenoblein Isère, was second at €2.50 per hour, tied with Rennes in Ille-et-Vilaine. This “Top 5” is closed by Bordeaux (Gironde) at €2.30 per hour, and Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) at €2 per hour. On the contrary, in which cities do you pay the least for parking? In Marseille ! The Phocaean City “only” asks €1.50 for one hour of on-street parking. Montpellier (Hérault) follows with €1.60 per hour, tied with Lyon (Rhône). Lille and Nantes ask for €1.70 and €1.90…

+ 61.3% increase in Rennes!

Inequalities which ultimately do not reveal no trend by region, each city freely setting the prices it wishes to apply. On the other hand, some of them have wickedly revised their prices upwards! This is particularly the case for Lyon, whose prices increased by 6.7% between 2022 and 2023, and for Montpellier, at +23.1%! Worse, Strasbourg saw an increase of 42.9% and Rennes of 61.3%! In 2022, it would cost you €1.55 to park in the Breton capital, compared to €2.50 today. These developments are anchored in an increasingly anti-car context in French metropolises : ZFE, ZTL and now taxes by weight are multiplying there in recent months!
