Carpool Lane Sanctions on the A1: Time for Enforcement

The government has been actively promoting carpooling and has introduced incentives of up to 200 euros for new registrants on carpooling platforms. This initiative, however, has seen mixed success. In addition, the state aims to establish dedicated carpooling routes nationwide, citing the numerous benefits such as significant fuel savings and reduced traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours on busy roads.

New Verbalizations

Carpooling lanes have started to appear on certain motorways, including the A1. Since September 4, awareness campaigns have been conducted to familiarize motorists with the concept. However, verbalization has now commenced, with fines set at 90 euros initially, which increase to 135 euros if paid after the 15-day deadline. Motorists are urged to exercise caution to avoid penalties.

An Overlooked Path

More than 54 offenses were recorded in one day, with the number rising to around sixty the following day, enforced by the CRS company of the 4 Cantons. Many drivers seem unaware of the existence of the carpool lane, which has struggled to attract motorists who still infrequently practice carpooling. Additionally, the lane is not easily identifiable, leading to confusion and inadvertent misuse.
