Comparison: What is the best small electric SUV?

With four cars from the Stellantis group incorporating many identical technical elements, we expected to find very similar driving sensations… But, surprise, each rival highlights very different qualities.

1er – Peugeot E-2008

Faithful to the forefront in terms of driving, Peugeot does it again with an E-2008 that is very pleasant to drive. It is certainly not the most efficient of the lot, but its damping offers a fair compromise between comfort and dynamism, and its steering is extremely precise.

2e – DS 3 E-Tense

We expected it to be the undisputed champion of comfort, but this DS 3 is firmer than a Fiat 600e, for the benefit of controlled body movements. Barely less dynamic than the E-2008, it is a great success.

3e – Jeep Avenger

Sometimes a little too firm, especially in town, the Avenger is not the most comfortable of the bunch. The other side of the coin is that he lets himself be taken along small roads without hesitation. It’s a shame that its very light steering doesn’t inspire enough confidence.

4e from the same – Fiat 600e

Fiat’s new small SUV focuses above all on flexibility at all levels: damping, steering. Good for riding in town! But, logically, the whole thing is not the most pleasant when the speed increases.

4e ex aequo – Hyundai Kona Electric

Less flexible than the Fiat 600e, the Hyundai Kona is not much more incisive on the road. It’s the heaviest in this group (1,662 kg measured), and it shows. Good point: it is the only one here to offer “one pedal” driving, which is pleasant in town.

4e ex aequo – MG ZS EV

With 177 hp, the ZS is logically the most efficient of the lot. Unfortunately, its front axle is reluctant to absorb the generous torque of the electric motor, especially in the wet. But he knows how to show great gentleness when you take care of him.
