Electric Cars Facing Bonus Deprivation in 2024!

The introduction of the new 2024 bonus/penalty is poised to disrupt the automotive market, including electric cars. Here are the models set to be deprived of bonuses in 2024.

As we transition from the era of “whatever it takes,” the emphasis now shifts to replenishing state coffers. Once again, motorists, a favorite revenue source for our leaders, will bear the brunt. With the advent of the 2024 bonus/malus system, some models will become challenging to sell due to the loss of bonuses and hefty penalties. This calls for strategic actions to be taken before the year ends.

The implementation of new eco bonus regulations on December 15 will strain the budgets of many prospective electric car buyers. As of this date, electric vehicles with manufacturing and delivery processes deemed environmentally harmful will lose the €5,000 boost.

Select Electric Cars to Forgo Bonuses

Electric cars are not exempt from this new system. Without the assistance of a €5,000 state subsidy, certain electric cars will face greater challenges in sales. This could be due to their prices surging well above those of their counterparts (e.g., the Kia Niro EV Active will then retail at €46,640, whereas its counterpart and technical clone, the Hyundai Kona 65 kWh Creative, will be priced at €40,250 after the deduction of the bonus). Alternatively, they may find themselves competitively priced alongside rivals. For example, the MG ZS EV Luxury Autonomie Extendue will be priced at €39,990, compared to €38,900 (after deduction of the bonus) for a Peugeot e-2008 156 GT.

This situation runs the risk of halting the rapid progress of certain brands, with MG at the forefront. Therefore, before the December 15 implementation date of the new scale, these electric cars soon to be deprived of bonuses need to be cleared from inventory.

Note: To qualify for the current bonus/malus system, orders must be placed before December 15, with delivery being possible by March 15. If you intended to upgrade your vehicle in 2024, it is advisable to bring forward your purchasing plans by a few months for your benefit.
