After the 4L, Renault 5 fans can now order the official electrical retrofit kit for the collector’s city car, which has just been approved.
Renault recently partnered with R-Fit, a specialist in retrofit conversion of vintage vehicles, to offer official electrical retrofit kits in order to equip the brand’s most iconic collector’s vehicles. The solution was already available for the Renault 4L (approved since February 2023), and now, fans of the Renault 5 can also offer it a 100% electric conversion kit.
The official electrical retrofit kit for the Renault 5 has just been releasedobtain approval (since September 2023) for R5 TL and GTL, with 3 or 5 doors (types 139700 and 122700). Once the conversion is carried out by R-Fit, the car will have a approval certificate as well as an updated registration document, allowing it to travel in low-emission zones (ZFE).
Conceived by R-Fitthe 100% electric retrofit kit for the Renault 5 retains the original mechanical transmission, and adds a Brushless-type synchronous electric motor with a power of 22 kW (30 horses), an electronic charge gauge, a “Power Box” (battery operating system), as well as a batterie LiFePo (Lithium Iron Phosphate) of 105V with a capacity of 10,7 kWh.
The whole makes it possible to offer approximately 80 km of autonomy, and complete recharging can be done in 3h30 using a 220V (16A) socket. To preserve the driving sensations of the period model, the weight distribution remains very close to that of the original Renault 5 equipped with its thermal engine.
The official electrical retrofit kit for the Renault 5 is available to order in France from R-Fit, on the website rfitvintage.com : it is proposed from €15,900installation included and conversion premium deducted, and is accompanied by a 2-year warranty, parts and labor.
The French manufacturer meets fans of old cars at the salon Epoqu’Auto, which will be held this year from November 10 to 12, 2023, at Eurexpo Lyon. The “The Originals Renault – La Collection” stand will notably present two retrofitted vehicles, a Renault 4 and a Renault 5: visitors will be able to discover the retrofit offer for the brand’s models, and place an order on the R-Fit stand .
Renault will then expand its range of conversion kits for its older models, with a electrical retrofit kit for the Twingowhich will subsequently be offered on the French market.
