Here is the first solar car capable of driving more than 1000 kilometers!

On board the Stella Terra solar car, an expedition traveled 1000 kilometers, from the north to the south of Morocco, without the need for recharging.

It’s a chestnut that keeps coming back in the automotive world. There solar car finally seems to give encouraging signs with a view to future commercialization. While electric cars are the subject of debate, new modes of transport are being studied. This is the case of the Star Earth, which wants to show that this green energy can function on a daily basis. For the first time, a solar car has driven more than 1000 kilometers !

The solar alternative takes off

Developed in the Netherlands, the Stella Terra is capable of leaving the asphalt for steeper roads, as it showed in Morocco, where it completed an adventure of more than 1000 kilometers without having to resort to recharging. This is a real feat for this type of vehicle, which crossed the country from north to south. Obviously, the trip was not easy and a breakdown had to be repaired by going to a local store. But more fear than harm for this experienced expedition.

An innovative SUV

Thanks to the Moroccan sun, the car has pushed the limits of its autonomy. Normally, in a sunny environment, it can last 710 km. These numbers reduce to 670 if it is cloudy or dark. In addition, during off-road driving, in which the demand on the propulsion system is more demanding, its autonomy decreases to 550 km.

Beyond its autonomy, it is the design of the Terra that catches the eye. With its SUV format and an elongated body, the car allows you to install solar panels on the roof. When stationary, the rear of the vehicle opens and it is possible to deploy new solar panels which will allow more solar energy to be captured.

Even though it is only a prototype developed by the Solar Team Eindhoven (Netherlands), the creators consider that this technology has 5 or 10 years ahead of the otherss. At present, it is difficult to say whether it will be released soon.
