Audi has just launched production of its new generation of electric motors for the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform in Győr, Hungary.
Audi inaugurates a new era of its production of electric motors in its Hungarian factory in Győr with the manufacture of electric motors for PPE platform (Premium Platform Electric). This completely new generation of electric motors will be used for the first time on the new Audi Q6 E-tron which is based on this new electrical architecture shared with Porsche, and whose production will begin in Ingolstadt, Germany, at the end of 2023.
“Győr is predestined for the production of these highly compact and efficient electric motors for the PPE platform” declared Gernot Döllner, CEO of Audi on this occasion: “The site’s highly skilled team has already built more than 400,000 electric propulsion systems since 2018, which constitutes invaluable experience.”
In addition to the new electric motors for the PPE platform of the Audi Q6 E-tron, the Győr plant also produces the electric motorization of the Audi Q8 E-tron. An additional production area is being created for the future production of electric motors for Volkswagen Group vehicles, which will be based on MEBeco platform (Modular electric drive kit)
To produce the electric motors of the PPE architecture, the brand with the four rings installed three new production lines in its Hungarian factory. The stator production line has 28 workstations, while the transmission components production line has 15. Assembling a single drive axle requires no fewer than 190 steps.
Environ 700 employees work on the manufacture of these engines: Győr employees work in three shifts, to produce up to 2,000 electric motors per day for the PPE platform. The site will supply both Audi and Porsche electric cars.
Production in Győr is carbon neutral since 2020: the production site also has the largest rooftop photovoltaic system in Europe, and is the largest industrial consumer of geothermal energy in Hungary. To make the transport of PPE electric motors from Győr to Ingolstadt carbon neutral, Audi will use the transport and logistics company DB Cargo.
Audi is present in Hungary for 30 years: Since its creation, the Hungarian subsidiary has grown to become the largest powertrain factory in the world, and the first Hungarian factory to produce premium cars. Volkswagen Group’s Győr facility is expected to soon host production of the Cupra Terramar SUV, and also produces complex body components, mainly made of aluminum, such as rear and front tailgates, doors, fenders, roofs and chassis frames. side panels, intended for Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley models.
Since its establishment, Audi Hungary has invested approximately 12 billion euros: it is thus one of the largest investors in Hungarian industry, which currently employs approximately 12,000 employees.
