The American manufacturer is launching the Jeep Avenger e-Hybrid equipped with a 48V hybrid engine, which promises a 15% reduction in consumption.
Initially introduced with a 100% electric engine, the Jeep Avenger range has expanded with the addition of a thermal engine, and now a new 48V hybrid engine (MHEV: Mild Hybrid 48V) called e-Hybrid.
“The history of Jeep and its versatile vehicles embodies freedom of choice for customers and reflects the brand’s commitment to diversity across its broad lineup. The new Avenger e-Hybrid represents the range’s first step towards electrification with an environmentally friendly vehicle, designed and described as an inclusive choice for a wide range of customers, who seek performance, style, cutting-edge technology and comfort in a compact vehicle,” declared on this occasion Eric Laforge, Head of the Jeep brand in Europe.
Under the hood, we find a 1.2 liter 3-cylinder engine, which develops 100 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque and is associated with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery and a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox: this incorporates a 21 kW electric motor (29 horsepower) and 55 Nm of torque, an inverter and the central transmission unit, which allows it to improve its efficiency.
This electric assistance improves low-speed torque, as well as quiet and responsive starts, with an “e-Creeping” function which ensures low-speed crawling, particularly useful in traffic jams or during parking maneuvers. It is then possible to drive in town in 100% electric mode for approximately 1 km, at a speed less than 30 km/h. e-Hybrid technology also allows energy to be recovered during deceleration and regenerative braking.
According to Jeep, the e-Hybrid engine offers optimal fuel efficiency, with savings of 15% in CO2 emissions and consumption: estimated CO2 emissions range from 111 to 114 grams per kilometer, depending on the version.
The new Avenger e-Hybrid is distinguished by new equipment, such as the electric glass sunroof, the leather upholstery or the electrically adjustable driver’s seat with massage function. To distinguish an Avenger e-Hybrid from the 100% electric version, it is equipped with a specific green “e” badge, placed on the tailgate.
Inside, we find a 7-inch e-Hybrid digital instrument cluster (10.25 inches optional), which displays information on driving mode, battery charging, and even sensor readings power. The Avenger e-Hybrid also has paddles on the steering wheel, allowing the gears of the 6-speed DCT gearbox to be changed in sequential mode.
Orders for the new Jeep Avenger e-Hybrid will be open from the end of this month November 2023. Three finishes will be offered: Longitude, Altitude and Summit.
