Volvo EM90: here is Volvo’s first 100% electric minivan

The Swedish manufacturer finally lifts the veil on the Volvo EM90, its first 100% electric minivan, which offers generous space on board for families.

Known for its SUVs, station wagons and other premium sedans, the Volvo range is now diversifying with the arrival of the Volvo EM90the first 100% electric minivan from the Swedish brand, which wants to appeal to families as well as professionals. The minivan segment has regained popularity in recent years, particularly in Asia: this is why the EM90 was presented in China, and will be marketed there first.

“With the EM90, we are bringing Volvo Cars’ heritage and leadership in safety to the exciting new electric MPV segment”declared on this occasion Jim Rowan, Managing Director of Volvo Cars: “This allows us to tap into new market demand that we haven’t explored before, and broaden the appeal of the Volvo brand to more people.” »

Volvo EM90: a real living room on wheels

The Volvo EM90 is distinguished by a style that is both imposing and refined, with 19 or 20-inch aerodynamic wheels, a front end with the brand’s famous lighting signature in the shape of Thor’s Hammer, as well as a Volvo logo luminous. The model is offered with a palette of four exterior colors, with warm tones.

But the most interesting thing lies inside: the EM90 has a generous and refined interior, capable of accommodating up to 6 people. There are lounge seats with careful comfort, a Bowers & Wilkins system with 21 speakers, as well as careful soundproofing, coupled with a double-chamber air suspension to ensure silence and comfort on the road.

On the technology side, we find an embedded system equipped with the Snapdragon Cockpit platform from Qualcomm Technologies as well as 5G connectivity, which is materialized by a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen located in the center of the dashboard, supplemented by a digital instrument cluster placed in front of the driver. An additional 15.6-inch screen, integrated into the roof, can be folded away to allow rear passengers to entertain or work, with the integration of a camera allowing video meetings.

Up to 738 kilometers of range

Under the hood, we find a 100% electric motor of 272 horsepowerpromising 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, and associated with a battery with a capacity of 116 kWh. According to Volvo, the EM90 offers a range of up to 738 kilometersaccording to the Chinese CLTC cycle, while the battery can be recharged from 10 to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

The EM90 is also equipped with the two-way chargingwhich allows the car battery to be used as an energy bank on the go, to power and charge electrical devices, but also other electric cars!

The 100% electric Volvo EM90 will be first marketed in China : the Swedish manufacturer has also opened its pre-order book for the Chinese market. The model should then be exported to other markets around the world during 2024.
