Tesla has initiated a recall campaign for the Model S and
At the end of 2022, Tesla had conducted numerous recalls in the United States. A total of 3.8 million electric cars were affected in 19 campaigns.
In 2023, the American manufacturer had a relatively calmer year. However, a new issue has been identified, and it involves a physical problem.
According to a safety advisory from the NHTSA, two Tesla models, the Model S and Model X, are affected by a concern regarding the driver’s airbag.
The company has therefore launched a recall campaign for 159 models produced between 2021 and 2023.
The problem lies with the driver’s airbag, which differs depending on the model’s steering wheel design.
It has been discovered that certain steering wheels have been installed incorrectly, leading to a potential malfunction of the airbag when deployed.
“During the maintenance of certain vehicles with a view to equipping the vehicle with another steering wheel at the customer’s request.
In short, a round steering wheel may have been fitted with a driver airbag variant designed for the caliper steering wheel airbag, and vice versa.”
Although a relatively minor issue for Tesla, this concern could affect the performance of the airbag if deployed, potentially leading to injuries for occupants.
As of now, there have been no reported injuries or deaths caused by this problem. However, Tesla has organized a recall campaign to physically address the issue, different from their usual methods.
Tesla will inspect the driver’s airbag of all affected cars to determine if it is functioning properly.
