This motorist was stopped by British police for serious speeding. He will not escape severe punishment.
Particularly serious speeding was observed on the M5, a British highway. Next to West Bromwich in the Midlands, not far from Birmingham, a driver was driving at… 220 km/h ! He was driving a McLaren 720S. A particularly high-performance sports car, so its owner clearly wanted to achieve peak speeds.
And he thought it was better to have fun on the highway rather than going to a circuit. As a reminder, the McLaren 720S is equipped witha twin-turbo V8 engine of 4.0 liters. Powered by more than 700 horsepower, it can reach a maximum speed of nearly 340 km/h. Its acceleration is not to be outdone, since it covers 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds. Of course, the police did not stand by and do nothing.
The speeding of the driver of this McLaren 720S was excessive. As reported The Sun, the penalties associated with such an offense are strong. If a motorist exceeds the speed limit of 30 km/h, he risks a prison sentence. And if he endangers other people on his way, he is liable to a fine of up to almost 29,000 euros. In addition, he risked having his driving license revoked.
These sanctions did not prevent the owner of the McLaren 720S from doing bursts of speed on the M5. The police eventually intervened. The sanction that was imposed is not known, but the officers did not stop at a simple fine. The driver was in fact prosecuted in British courts.

With his McLaren 720S, this motorist smashed the speed record observed in the West Midlands this year. However, he was not the only driver to be guilty of serious speeding In the region. Not far away, in Frankley, a Audi A1 was stopped by the police while driving at 214 km/h!
Surprisingly, however, its driver was not sanctioned by the officers. A Volkswagen Golf was also seen traveling at more than 200 km/h in the surrounding area. The news is all the more surprising as the car is far from being designed for such high speeds. This time, legal action was taken.
