Tesla is considering the repair process for single-piece structural elements used in their cars. The new manufacturing process, known as giga-casting, utilizes huge molding presses under high pressure to create single-piece parts, reducing traditional assembly steps.
This production method offers significant advantages, but raises questions about repairs in the event of damage. Tesla is working to facilitate and reduce repair costs for cars with bodywork created using the giga-casting process. They are investing in research and development to find innovative repair methods that restore integrity without significantly increasing costs.
Currently, only the rear part of the Model Y is manufactured using giga-casting, but Tesla plans to expand this technique to other models in the future. Other manufacturers, including Hyundai, Volvo, Ford, and Toyota, also show interest in this production process due to its speed and cost-saving benefits.
