Would you like to switch to electric? Check out these cars to buy before the 2024 bonus tightens.
It has been several years since the introduction of the ecological bonus to encourage motorists to choose less polluting models. Previously accessible to gasoline vehicles, the conditions have been significantly tightened, and now only 100% electric cars are eligible. These cars must be priced below 47,000 euros and weigh under 2.4 tonnes to qualify. However, the government plans to further tighten restrictions next year. This includes excluding certain models from eligibility.

While the list of models eligible for the ecological bonus in 2024 is yet to be revealed, it’s already known that cars produced in China will be excluded. Many of these cars are sold in France at very affordable prices, so it’s important to act quickly if you’re considering buying one. The Dacia Spring is currently the cheapest electric car in France, starting from 20,800 euros before the bonus. In addition, it’s still possible to benefit from state aid when buying the MG 4, currently priced from 27,490 euros. This price defies all competition in the compact electric segment, while offering very satisfactory overall performance.
You can also consider the MG5, the station wagon version, and the MG Marvel R, both of which are also eligible for the bonus. The Tesla Model 3, starting from 42,990 euros, is eligible for a 5,000 euros bonus until January 1. Other models worth considering before you can no longer claim state aid include the Kia Niro, e-Soul, Mazda MX-30 (manufactured in Japan), Nissan Leaf, Smart #1, and the new Volvo EX30 recently unveiled.
