In one year, the number of charging points open to the public has increased by 47%: France now has 111,209 charging points at the end of October 2023.
Since 2021, Avere-France has partnered with the Ministry of Energy Transition and electromobility expert Gireve, to produce a monthly barometer on electric vehicle charging infrastructures. Since the start of 2023, 7,383 new charging stations have been deployed on French territory, which represents 29,102 new charging points open to the public. At the end of October 2023, there are now 111,209 charging points open to the public in France.
“In October, a significant milestone was reached with 110,000 charging points open to the public. In addition, France exceeded the total number of installations for the year 2022 during this quarter. However, it is important to note that a slight slowdown in new installations was observed after a period of increase during the summer. For the first time in 2023, the 12-month growth rate fell below 50%, now reaching 47%.clarified on this occasion Clément Molizon, General Delegate of Avere-France: “At the same time, it is interesting to note the evolution of charging points above 150 kWh, which have seen a 3-fold increase over the last 12 months. This development is confirmed by the evolution of installed power in France, the growth rate of which only increased during the quarter (3.20% in August, 4.98% in September, 6.42% in October) “.
It was during the month of May 2023 that France crossed the threshold of 100,000 charging points open to the public: a goal barely achieved, while the French government’s initial objective was to exceed 100,000 points in 2021. On average, we now count 165 charging points per 100,000 inhabitants In France.
Growth therefore continues, faced with the rise of electric vehicles: over the first 10 months of 2023, there are no less than 253,576 new electric vehicles which were registered in France, and 131,674 plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV).
In October 2023, the threshold of 110,000 charging points open to the public was crossed in France: this represents a 47% increase over 12 monthsbut Avere-France nevertheless notes a slight slowdown in new installations, after a period of increase recorded during the summer.
The deployment of charging stations in France also focuses on fast models, delivering high power: in fact, the number of charging points with a power greater than 150 kWh has been multiplied by 3 over the last 12 months .
At the end of October 2023, these are in total 38,724 charging stations which we now find in France: in detail, it is in the Île-de-France region that we find the greatest number of charging stations (5,078 stations, with 19,392 charging points), followed by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (4,784 stations, or 13,042 charging points).
The deployment of public charging stations in France will continue. Emmanuel Macron has already set an ambitious objective for France: achieving the 400,000 charging stations by 2030. To do this, the government has just announced a new envelope of 200 million euros for the deployment of charging stations.
