Renault Twingo, Citroën ë-c3, Dacia Spring: France strikes back

French manufacturers like Renault and Citroën are determined not to let themselves face the Chinese brands.

You have undoubtedly noticed this if you regularly read the Auto-Plus columns, the Chinese manufacturers are increasingly present on the European market. And for good reason, many of them are now trying their luck with us, in order to increase their market share. To do this, they are taking advantage of the development of electricity, and the future ban on the sale of thermal models to try to enter the dance and take precedence over traditional European manufacturers. But it is far from winning, despite very strong arguments.

A real counterattack

Indeed, the strong point of Asian brands, and particularly those from China, remains prices. The latter have the capacity toshow very low prices, although slightly increased when the cars arrive at our home. And this would be thanks to subsidies granted by the Chinese government to these brands, according to the European Union. But then, how can French firms act? Well, they too have decided to launch a counterattack, by planning to launch several very affordable models over the next few years, quite simply.

Accessible cars

This is particularly the case for Renault, which is preparing its future R5 E-Tech for less than 25,000 euros as well as a future Twingo and a model known as Legend, below the 20,000 euro mark. For its part, Citroën recently unveiled its ë-C3, while Dacia is still marketing its Spring. Abroad, Volkswagen is working on the production version of its ID.2all concept. But that’s not all, because Opel and Fiat will also launch their own affordable car, as will Ford, which also wants to find a place in this highly coveted segment.
