The Pope will soon drive a Volkswagen

Volkswagen has teamed up with the Vatican to supply the Pope with a fleet of 40 electric cars, among other things. Let’s delve into the details.

For several years, many cities and states have been making efforts to either ban or reduce the presence of traditional cars on their streets. This is evident in Paris and various other municipalities in France that have become or will become low emission zones. Some aim to set an example by having leaders drive electric cars to influence the rest of the population.

An unusual delivery

The Vatican city-state is one example of a place aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and is focusing on electric vehicles to achieve this. As part of this initiative, the city has partnered with Volkswagen, which will be delivering 40 cars from its ID range, including the ID.3, ID.4, and ID.5 models. Some copies of the compact model have already been delivered to certain state representatives. It is yet to be determined which model the Pope will choose for his travels.

A partnership with Volkswagen

These cars are financed directly by the manufacturer through its subsidiary Volkswagen Financial Services. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the financing branch mentioned, “We are delighted to support the Vatican in this important project. It is of particular importance to us and attests to our competitiveness in terms of mobility solutions.” Additional cars will be delivered later to replace the existing fleet.
