This Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 comes back to life after 42 years of abandonment

A Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 will be sold at auction in France. This model, more imposing than its counterparts, was abandoned for 42 years.

A rare discovery has just been proposed in an auction organized by Aguttes, In France. It’s about a Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 produced in 1968. According to the auctioneer, the vehicle belonged to a French doctor. But it has not been used for a long time, since it was abandoned in 1981 when its owner went to work abroad.

For 42 years, this Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 was not used at all and did not move from the place where it had been left. It only resurfaced recently. Necessarily, coming across a car of this type, untouched for over 40 years, is a boon. No changes have been made to the Ferrari, which is therefore a real original version dating from the 1960s!

A 1968 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 is offered for sale after decades of abandonment

The Ferrari offered for sale by Aguttes a retained its original color (which is not the usual Ferrari red). The original engine has not been touched, although it may not be in pristine condition. It is indeed clear that the Ferrari needs a proper restoration. On this point, she is the ideal candidate for such an operation.

Once restored, it will return to its original shape, as if it had just left the Ferrari factories. This acquisition could be all the more interesting as the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 is an exceptional model. It was presented for the first time at Paris Motor Show in 1967, as successor to the 500 Superfast. It was also designed by Aldo Brovarone at Pininfarina. Every element of its bodywork was made by hand.

A more imposing and comfortable model than its peers

The engine of this Ferrari is a V12 Colombo Type 245 4.4 liters, which still produces 320 horsepower and runs at 6,600 rpm. It was also the first car from the Italian brand to have benefited from a power steering and air conditioning. It could also accommodate four people and a lot of luggage. A perfect car for going on vacation!

Certainly, this Ferrari model is not a sports car. The Italian manufacturer had designed it so that it sold in plus grand nombre. Besides 800 copies had been marketed. This operation allowed Ferrari to maintain its financial health. In a way, it is a precursor to models like the Ferrari Purosangue, the brand’s first SUV. Like the latter, the 365 GT 2+2 was wider and more imposing than the other Ferraris.
