Beware of this monstrous fine in case of rain!

When it rains, certain behaviors can result in significant fines, some of which may be surprising!

When you are driving, there are certain rules that you must follow to avoid receiving a fine. This includes speeding and using a cell phone while driving.

However, there are other less obvious sanctions that can come as a surprise, such as when it starts to rain.

A fine of up to £5,000

According to statistics from authorities, road accidents generally increase between November and January.

There are several reasons for this, including the fact that the nights are longer and it gets darker earlier in the day. Additionally, the weather is generally colder and wetter. But there is a rule to avoid getting fined when it rains.

In fact, it is forbidden to splash pedestrians on a rainy day. This falls under the “without consideration for other people” conduct framework in the UK.

This behavior is covered by Article 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, and the fixed fine is £100 but can go up to £5,000 and result in three points less on the license.

No law in France

In France, the Highway Code does not provide for a fine for this type of behavior. It only includes some notions of courtesy but nothing specifically about splashing pedestrians.

The highway code mainly speaks about appropriate distances to maintain between your car and the pavement.

The United Kingdom has the highest fine for this behavior, but it is not the only country to apply a sanction for this type of behavior.

In Canada, it is necessary to avoid splashing when the roadway is covered with water, mud, or slush. The fine in this case is only a few dozen dollars.

This is also the case in Spain, where the fine is a maximum of 100 euros. So be careful if you are driving abroad.
