MG7: is this large Audi A7-style sedan likely to arrive in Europe?

The MG7 sedan is a standout in the MG range, and it has the potential to create envy among consumers in Europe. The question remains: will it ever be available in this region?

When looking at the MG range in France, one can see practical models that are current and competitively priced. The introduction of electric models from the brand in 2024 is expected to bring their pricing in line with the competition. However, the recent release of the non-electric MG7 sedan has raised some eyebrows. The sedan boasts a 1.5-liter engine with 188 hp and 300 Nm, or a 2.0-liter engine with 261 hp and 405 Nm.

Affordable Elegance

In China, the MG7 is making waves with its affordable pricing. The base model starts at only 119,800 RMB, which is less than 15,500 euros. With a larger engine and additional options, the price goes up to 181,800 RMB, roughly 23,000 euros.

Despite the potential to be a game-changer in the European sedan market, the MG7 will not be available in the region due to strict anti-pollution standards. The cost of transporting, custom duties, taxes, and ecological penalties, could all contribute to the car costing up to 70% more than its Chinese prices. With no plans for plug-in hybrid or electric versions, European consumers will have to settle for admiring the sedan from afar.

The Future of MG in Europe

In Europe, MG is focused on introducing electrified cars, with a hybrid MG3 set to launch next year and a ZS with the same engine. The anticipated release of the Cyberster, with a starting price of around 60,000 euros, is also on the horizon. Additionally, MG is in talks to establish a factory in Europe by 2025-2026, which could potentially lead to the return of bonuses for some of MG’s electric cars in France.
