Tesla Model 3: good second-hand choices for less than €30,000

The Tesla Model 3 is experiencing a significant drop in price on the second-hand market, making it accessible to more people without breaking the bank…

The Tesla Model 3 was a game-changer in the automotive industry. A compact sedan (4.70 m), it embodies the American brand’s expertise and has become a benchmark in the industry. It aims to revolutionize mobility with state-of-the-art technology and impressive interior design. Tesla’s ability to reduce costs in engineering is remarkable.

However, the ergonomics are less impressive: the speedometer and controls are on a central touchscreen, and the finish quality is lacking, with “eco” materials aging poorly and producing squeaks over time. The rear seating position is not the most comfortable due to the raised floor. Despite this, the Model 3 has benefits in terms of spaciousness and a large rear hold.

An Impressive Electric Car

The Model 3 rivals traditional cars in terms of road behavior, but the suspension is quite firm, impacting rear passengers. The Long Range (LR) version with two engines offers all-wheel drive efficiency, while the entry-level Standard Range Plus (SR+) version demonstrates great stability.

The Model 3 is represented on the market due to its more affordable price. Both versions offer a comfortable autonomy, and the Supercharger network provides easy recharging. The battery is guaranteed for 8 years and 160,000 km for rear-wheel drive models (SR+) and 192,000 km for LR models.

Essential Equipment Levels

The Model 3 keeps it simple and does not offer trim levels. The options catalog is minimal, with choices of rims, body colors, and upholstery, as well as enhanced autopilot or autonomous driving capability (FSD) limited in Europe.

Engine Options

An approximate budget of €30,000 allows access to the Standard Range Plus and Long Range versions with different mechanics depending on the model year. The Performance versions are more expensive.

Standard Range Plus 300 hp: This version with a single rear electric motor offers 300 hp. Models from 2020 with 50,000 km are within budget.

Standard Range Plus 325 hp: This version has more power and a slightly larger battery, with a similar cost to the 300 hp SR+ version.

Long Range 345 hp: The LR version from 2019 features two similar electric motors and a 75 kWh battery. Fully equipped models are available with an average of 90,000 km.

Long Range 440 hp: The 2021 version has a new induction motor at the front, although the battery is smaller. Models within budget have around 120,000 km.

What to Monitor

It’s important to check the service book, bodywork/paint, tires, and running trains due to potential issues with the Model 3. It’s advised to opt for a Standard Range Plus 325 hp from 2021 with less than 60,000 km and a full warranty.
