The maximum speed of cars soon to be blocked?

In the United States, authorities are considering using GPS technology to block the maximum speed of cars.

We have all experienced speeding during our driving lives. Most of the time, they are minimal and do not really endanger other road users. But they are still punished by radar if you get flashed. And for good reason, Road Safety has made the fight against speed its main focus, explaining that the latter is the cause of numerous fatal accidents. Which explains, among other things, the considerable increase in the number of speed cameras on the roads of France in recent years.

A decisive accident

But some countries can go further. In the United States, the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) is considering a completely new measure. Indeed, the organization in charge of road safety in the United States wishes to limit the maximum speed of new cars in order to put an end to excesses. This idea was born following a serious accident, during which a driver under the influence of drugs collided with a minivan, killing a total of seven people while he was traveling at 165 km/h instead of 50 km/h. h.

And in France ?

But instead of fighting against drug use, the government preferred to attack speed following this affair. The chair of the NTSB board explains that “ we know that the key to saving lives is limitation, which can protect us all from human error on the road“. Thus, new cars would be restricted according to their location, thanks to GPS technology, so as not to be able to exceed the maximum permitted speed. For the moment, the arrival of this measure in France is fortunately not in the news but systems of this type are still being studied.
