There will be no new Smart ForTwo for the moment

If you were waiting for the Smart ForTwo to return, you will have to be patient because this is not planned for the moment.

Until recently, Smart marketed only two city cars in its catalog. As a reminder, these were the ForTwo and ForFour, first sold with thermal engines then became 100% electric a little later. But after a long career, it was finally time for the two to take a well-deserved retirement, while the firm was looking to give itself a little facelift. This is how the Smart #1 was born, followed by the new #3 which will soon be available in a brand new, more affordable version.

Not at the moment

But while the Smart ForTwo has therefore deserted the catalog, the manufacturer finds itself without a small city car. And this is likely to last for a little while, at least according to our colleagues from the German site Auto Zeitung. In fact, they explain that the return of the small two-seater car is not imminent, and that it will be better to be patient. And for good reason, the arrival of a potential new generation is not not planned until at least the year 2026. Suffice to say that it gives you time to see it coming. But what do we know about it?

An affordable vehicle

Well for the moment, not much. Only that this hypothetical Smart #2 will be developed internally by Smart and not in partnership with Renault or even Geely. On the other hand, it could quite compete with the future Twingo Legend as well as the Dacia Spring. Because there is no doubt that this newcomer will feature a 100% electric engine, even if this has not yet been officially confirmed by the Sino-German manufacturer.
