Charging stations: parking soon to be charged?

In the Netherlands, a city wants to eliminate free parking at charging stations for electric car drivers.

In recent years, the electric car market has been steadily growing, with an increasing market share. Despite slightly slower sales in recent months, the success of electric cars is continuing to rise.

A controversial measure

If some motorists switch to this engine for environmental reasons, others are more attracted to the various incentives. Among them, the ecological bonus is an appealing factor. However, the ability to park for free at a charging station has been a major advantage for electric car owners in most European countries for years. But this has led to issues as cars remain parked for longer periods than necessary, causing problems for those in need of a charging station. Therefore, starting from February 1, the city of Haarlem located in the Netherlands will charge for parking at charging stations for owners of zero-emission cars.

When will we be home?

This new rule does not apply to electric car owners with a parking permit for the corresponding area, which is a resident package. The municipality also wants to facilitate car sharing between neighbors or friends, even if they do not live in the same permit area. It is now possible to request a parking permit together for a single car, valid in multiple parking zones. Will we eventually have to pay for parking at charging terminals in addition to the charging price in France? The future trend may lead to increasing prices and measures to make motorists spend more. For now, nothing has been confirmed on this matter, but drivers can still take advantage of this situation without any worries. But for how long? The question remains unanswered at this time.
