Lamborghini now wants to focus on electric

Lamborghini wants to change course and become a more environmentally friendly brand by turning to electric.

A necessary shift

In recent years, all manufacturers have slowly started to electrify their catalog. And for good reason, the European Union wants to ban the sale of thermal cars throughout the country from 2035, except for brands selling less than 1,000 vehicles per year. Suffice to say that everyone will be affected, even the most high-end manufacturers, like Lamborghini. And that’s not really a problem, since the firm also wants to turn to electric vehicles in the coming years. This is in fact what his boss, Stephan Winkelmann, recently announced during a round table with the Italian press. He notably recalls Lamborghini’s commitment to “ reduce the carbon footprint by 40% by 2030 across the entire value chain“. But that’s not all. He explains in particular that “with regard to electric vehicles, it is too early to give an answer today, but I can speak to the reception that the Revuelto, which is a hybrid, has received, and it has been overall very positive.”

More electrics

He goes on to explain that “with regard to the Lanzador concept, we are collecting feedback, we are also going to do a study to understand a little more generally what the feeling is towards a super sports car or a super sports car of all the all-electric days.” Concerning a zero-emission car, the businessman affirms that “we are working to develop the software, the weight/power ratio, cars which, in our opinion, can exceed the expectations of the best internal combustion cars. This needs to be tested, we’re working on it, give us some time. You will of course see it for yourself.” He continues “if you ask me when the first electric cars will leave the factory, it’s difficult to say now: it depends a little on when, in 2028, we will present the Lanzador. It is therefore very likely that the first copies are delivered in 2029“. But this remains a simple possibility, and we will still have to be patient before knowing more.
