Toyota launches recall campaign following airbag problems

Toyota is conducting a major global recall campaign due to a significant airbag issue. We will provide all the details.

An important concern

Recall campaigns are familiar to most people. These are organized by manufacturers to address widespread issues with their vehicles. Customers do not have to pay for the repairs and can simply visit a brand garage or dealership to have the problem fixed. This time, it is Toyota facing the spotlight due to a problem with airbags. According to the recall notice on the Toyota website, sensors on the front passenger seat of the affected vehicles may have a manufacturing defect that could cause a short circuit. This issue could prevent the device from accurately assessing the passenger’s weight, leading to potential airbag deployment failures in certain accidents, increasing the risk of injury.

A vast reminder

The affected models were produced between 2020 and 2022 and include popular SUV models like RAV4 and Highlander, as well as the Corolla and Camry. In total, 1.2 million cars worldwide are affected by this recall campaign. This comes shortly after Daihatsu suspended all deliveries due to safety test irregularities. A total of 64 vehicle models are affected, including some produced for Toyota, Mazda, and Subaru. This new issue is another setback for the automobile giant, which was previously involved in a scandal of inappropriate tests on the engines of the truck manufacturer Hino. Despite this, the Japanese manufacturer is committed to taking all necessary measures to address the airbag problem and has also issued public apologies. To be continued…
