Why should you absolutely stop refueling after the pump gun clicks?

When refueling, the pump gun clicks. Here’s why you absolutely shouldn’t continue refueling after that.

When we are going to do filling the car with gasoline there are some bad habits to forget. Some, while the click of the pump gun sounds, continue to apply fuel. There are two main reasons which clearly explain why you need to stop this practice.

For your mechanics

Initially, it is important not to practice this habit because it can cause damage to the mechanical of your car (or motorcycle). Indeed, Graham Conway, managing director of the British company Select Car Leasing, explained that continuing to put fuel after the click of the gun takes the risk that the fuel goes into the pipes of the car. This could then deteriorate the recovery system gasoline vapor pipes and cause damage to your car. He adds that this is consequences which are observed more often on motorcycles than on cars. We will see later, but an overly full tank can cause fuel to flow on the road and especially on your rear wheel. You lose grip, particularly in the turns. This will undoubtedly increase the possibility of having an accident, damages to your car, and therefore an expensive trip to the garage.

For your wallet

The other reason is financial. In fact, a large part of the fuel that you put too much will not go into the reservoir. It can go into the mechanic of your car, but above all on the pavement via the mechanical drain of the vehicle. Not only will you waste money, but you will make the road slippery for other road users. This will be all the more the case for bikers and cyclists for whom this situation can be particularly dangerous. Finally, from an ecological point of view, this practice is also not recommended, as the fuel can go onto the shoulder of the road and into nature. Moreover, with fuel prices constantly evolving and often to the disadvantage of the motorist, it would be judicious not to increase the bill for nothing. You will now know why you should not go further when you hear the click from the pump at the gas station.

Finally, if you want to know the price of gasoline in France and in other countries for border workers, you can find all the prices here.
