We found a car better than the Tesla S in the winter range test

During a full-scale autonomy test, a Chinese manufacturer, little known in Europe, obtained excellent results at -10 degrees.

While winter plays tricks on electric cars, it seems that a Chinese brand stands out from the crowd on the market. To the point of even competing with Tesla on one of its strong points, namely autonomy. This young Chinese manufacturer, which is not yet known in Europe, obtained excellent results during a autonomy test full-scale. These are vehicles of the HiPhi brand founded in 2019 by Human Horizons.

Autonomous for 522 kilometers in the cold

In France, it is currently considered that 15% of cars are electric. Some motorists prefer to wait, in particular because of the price and range. Most drivers say they want a vehicle with at least 400 kilometers on a single charge. The problem that electric vehicles face is the autonomy time in winter, in the cold. As consumption increases the number of kilometers that can be traveled is reduced.

During an autonomy test organized by the Norwegian media Motor.no, a Chinese manufacturer surprised everyone. And for good reason, its flagship car, the HiPhi Z does better than the Tesla Model S in cold weather.

Serious competitor for Tesla

The HiPhi Z is a sedan ultra-high-end which can be considered on the same level as the Tesla S or the Porsche Taycan. Its most efficient version is capable of displaying a range of 700 kilometers. And when the temperature oscillates between -2 and -10 degrees, it travels 522 kilometers with just one charge!

Even if it is not yet marketed in France, it should soon be. In any case, she does better than Tesla and its Model 3 who realizes 441 kilometers under the same conditions.

In winter, electric car batteries have another problem. This is the time it takes to recharge, due to the temperatures being too low. It is estimated that the ideal conditions for the battery range between 25 and 35 degrees. If it is hotter, or colder, the vehicle’s performance varies. Most autonomy tests are also carried out at this temperature, which does not really allow us to know which vehicles are the most autonomous in cold weather.
