Like Mercedes and Volkswagen, Peugeot will integrate ChatGPT into its cars

Generative artificial intelligence will be combined with classic voice assistance on Peugeot models by the end of 2024.

After DS, Mercedes and even Volkswagen, it’s Peugeot’s turn to officially announce the integration of ChatGPT a generative artificial intelligence from OpenAI, to its vehicles.

The main objective of this integration is to improve communication between the driver and the vehicle using AI capable of creating not only texts, but also images.

You will soon be able to communicate with your Peugeot

Currently, voice assistants can sometimes have difficulty understanding instructions correctly, thus creating “lags” compared to assistants on smartphones. Peugeot aims to solve this problem by offering a smoother conversation service using generative AI. This system can be used to simply control the infotainment, navigation and air conditioning system, but he will also be able to obtain answers to general questions by searching for his sources directly via the Internet.
Peugeot mentions a sort of enrichment of conversations, but also the possibility of quickly answering questions, without the driver feeling obliged, for example, to pick up their phone to type in their request. It is then possible to ask for the weather forecast for example, ask general knowledge questions, or even ask for information on a place or monument that you may have come across on your route.

At what price ?

Before the deployment of ChatGPT in Peugeot by the end of 2024 in its five main markets, namely France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom, there will be a test phase which will involve 5,000 volunteer customers and participating vehicles must be equipped with the “Peugeot Connect” system to access this service.

However, one question remains unanswered: the cost of this service. During the testing phase, Peugeot will offer this service free of charge, but once marketed, the French manufacturer plans to charge it as an option, or even as a subscription.
