Parisians approve the tripling of parking prices for the heaviest cars

Parking prices for the heaviest vehicles were put to a vote this Sunday in Paris, and the tiny portion of Parisians who went to the polls approved this measure.

Sunday February 4, Parisians expressed their desire to see parking prices for SUV increase considerably. Finally, this sentence still deserves some clarification. Indeed, we could have rather written that a “small part” of Parisians expressed this desire, since participation was less than 6% with approximately 78,000 participants out of the 1.3 million registered.

“Yes” therefore won with 54.55% of the votes in a vote aimed at establishing a specific rate for parking for individual cars. “heavy, bulky and polluting”. Let us point out that in recent days, Parisian elected officials in favor of this measure have revised their copy a little, no longer defining these vehicles as “SUVs”, on the one hand because they do not necessarily know how to give the exact definition ( is there one though?), and on the other hand because it is impossible to make the distinction legally speaking.

What are the prices for parking an SUV in Paris now?

The few Parisians who came therefore voted for a differentiated rate for parking vehicles exceeding 1.6 tonnes for thermal or plug-in hybrids, and two tonnes for electric ones. According to the municipal project, these vehicles will have to pay 18 euros per hour parking in the central districts of Paris (from 1is au 11th) et 12 euros in the outer districts. The implementation of this reform is scheduled for 1is September, after his appearance at the Paris Council in May.
Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris, expressed her satisfaction with this result, calling it ” pride “. However, the low turnout was criticized by the right-wing opposition, the LR and Allied Group, which said the vote had gone ahead “in general indifference”. Indeed, apart from

A measure that does not directly concern Parisians

Please also note that residents parking in their neighborhood and professionals, including taxis, will not be affected by this price increase. This initiative aims to encourage the use of greener vehicles and reduce congestion and pollution in the French capital. Supporters of the measure say it will encourage SUV owners to opt for more environmentally friendly alternatives.

At least for those who have to go to Paris, without living there.
