New Lancia Ypsilon (2024): all the information on the transalpine electric city car

The new Lancia Ypsilon is revealed online before its presentation in Milan on February 14.

It is distinguished by a design inspired by the Lancia Stratos and the Pu+Ra HPE concept. The interior offers some pretty surprising features, including a multifunctional table and an innovative infotainment system called SALA.

A clever mix of authenticity and modernity

After a feverish wait that stretched over months, here is finally the new Lancia Ypsilon unveiled online, giving us a sneak peek before its big reveal in Milan next February 14. Sharing its platform with the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa, the Ypsilon aspires to distinguish itself from its technical companions with a decidedly personal design and characteristics specific to it.
Inspired by the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE concept, the front of the Ypsilon features a three-pointed look, nicknamed “the chalice” by Lancia. Similar to Citroën or BMW more recently, the main headlights are located below, while the front bumper incorporates an imposing air intake. At the rear, the design draws on the iconic aesthetic of the Lancia Stratos from the 1970s, with circular LED lights and a pronounced crease evoking the characteristic style of this iconic model.
Although the Ypsilon shares a sloping roofline like its cousins, it is distinguished by rear door handles cleverly hidden in the C-pillar.

It focuses on its interior

Inside, the Ypsilon has unique touches, such as seats covered in blue velvet, a flat steering wheel, and a circular platform called a “multifunctional table”. It’s more of a space where you could easily place a tablet for entertainment while charging, for example. This intriguing table also includes a wireless charging pad and features the special edition Cassina logo, a collaboration with the famous Italian furniture brand. Only 1906 copies of this special edition will be put on the market.
The Ypsilon features a two-level cockpit, with a recessed digital instrument cluster and a slightly overhanging central touchscreen. Below the touchscreen, physical buttons take care of the climate controls, while the center console houses the gear selector and start button.
When it comes to infotainment, the Ypsilon stands out as the first car to adopt the SALA system (Sound Air Light Augmentation) from Lancia. This customizable, widget-based system allows you to control the audio system, air conditioning and interior lighting via the central screen. Lancia describes this system as an easy way to personalize the car’s ambiance through simple gestures or voice commands.

The Lancia Ypsilon will enter the market as an electric version, closely followed by a mild-hybrid version. See you in a few days to discover it in all its splendor.
