Theft: they hide an Audi… under mattresses!

An Audi was found by Catalan police in the port of Barcelona. The thieves had found an original method to hide it.

The Catalan police in Spain came across a stolen Audi hidden in a surprising, but clever way. This discovery was made on January 22, when the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalonia police) raided the port of Barcelona. The operation was not a coincidence, since the agents actually managed to find traces of a missing Audi.

This car had been rented from an agency located in Madrid. However, the tenants never brought the Audi back. As the Spanish police suspected, they were in reality criminals. The model in question is also a vehicle top of the line whose value is estimated at 240,000 euros.

An Audi hidden under mattresses in the trunk of a truck

The thieves found a clever technique to hide the Audi. They drove to the port of Barcelona to load her onto a boat. While waiting for the ship to leave, they obviously did not leave the German vehicle parked in plain sight. They put it in the trunk of a truck.

As reported by France 3so that no one could see it, even in the event of a customs or police inspection, the criminals covered the car with mattresses but also washing machines. Hidden in this way, the agents could have believed that the truck was only carrying normal cargo. However, the thieves’ plan completely failed. In question, a very small error.

Thieves forgot to turn off GPS

Being a modern, high-end car, this Audi is also equipped with GPS. However, the thieves forgot to deactivate it. As a result, police officers were able to find the vehicle without any difficulty. As they approached the port of Barcelona, they realized that the GPS was limited to the inside of the truck.

And although the Audi was well hidden under mattresses, this hiding place was not sufficient to fool the police Catalans. In any case, the police action was extremely effective. When they arrived on scene, the truck was about to board a boat. It is likely that the German car would never have been found if they had come a little later.
