Citroën refuses to pay for a very common problem on its C4 Picasso!

A crossmember replacement is estimated at nearly €1,929 at 83,000 km, and Citroën is being accused of not handling a known problem with the Grand C4 Picasso for over three years, which is widespread on this model.

For almost four years, Erwan, a loyal reader from Eysines (33), was perfectly satisfied with his Citroen Grand C4 Picasso 2.0 BlueHDi 150 purchased new at the end of 2016. However, from September 2020, the minivan is the victim of a problem well known to this generation: the rear axle creaks. When changing support or going up on a sidewalk, the rear axle of the Citroën C4 Picasso can emit an annoying squeak. To remedy, workshops can inject foam into the crossmember. Erwan’s car, with only 53,700 km at the time, was taken to an official workshop of the brand which, as provided for by the manufacturer’s procedure, injects the expanded foam in the hollow part of the crosspiece. This action temporarily fixed the problem. But at the beginning of 2023, the squeaking returned and the annoying noises reappeared. Erwan reported the defect to his garage at the end of last summer.

Play for time

This time, the only solution offered by the brand is to replace the rear suspension crossmember. Not only is this element expensive, with a quote that climbs to €1,925, but also the manufacturer refuses to grant the slightest contribution to its client! According to Citroën, the foam injection which was carried out three years in advance served its purpose. Furthermore, Erwan’s Grand C4 Picasso is now 6.5 years old and has 83,000 km. In the eyes of the brand, it is therefore too old and has driven too much for them to be responsible. These conclusions are not shared by Erwan.
