Ford shakes up its electric car strategy

Ford is revising its approach to electric cars to prioritize smaller models. We will provide you with an explanation.

Change of Strategy

We are aware that all car manufacturers will need to transition to all-electric vehicles to continue selling their cars in Europe. This is due to the impending prohibition of selling thermal models throughout the continent by 2035. Ford is no exception and has already begun electrifying its range, including the Mustang Mach-E, E-Transit, F-150 Lightning, and the recently unveiled Explorer. However, the company is now looking to reassess its strategy and shift its focus towards small electric cars in the future. This decision comes in the wake of significant losses in its zero-emission division and a recognition of the growing demand for smaller, less expensive electric vehicles.

Focus on Cost-effectiveness

The American manufacturer acknowledges that while customers are interested in electric vehicles, many are not willing to pay a high price for them. Jim Farley, the company’s CEO, stated that Ford aims to invest more in the development of small electric cars rather than larger ones in the future. Additionally, the company plans to cut costs by eliminating unattractive features, such as the automatic parking system, to save money. This cost-saving measure, along with the shift towards smaller electric models, is essential for Ford, as the company is still experiencing financial losses with its previous electric models.
