Renting a parking space: in which city is it most expensive?

From simple to double, or even triple, some cities display absolutely crazy average parking rental prices. Unsurprisingly, Paris is in first place in this ranking.

When you live in the city center, regardless of the city in general, if you have a car and no parking, it’s generally a hassle to find a parking space. The ideal therefore, it is to rent a parking lot or a box to store your car and avoid wasting time looking for a place when leaving work.

But as a study carried out by Zenpark, which specializes in shared parking, reveals, the average cost of renting a parking space in France can be very disparate.

How much does it cost to rent a parking lot in a big city?

On average, this amounts to 87.95 euros per month. However, this price varies considerably depending on location, with significant differences between different municipalities. Unsurprisingly, it is in Paris that the prices are the highest. To secure a parking space in the capital, you have to pay on average 207.50 euros per month. Here too, this differs depending on the districts. In the 8th district for example, it is not uncommon to see boxes selling for more than 300 euros per month.
And this should not necessarily improve with the latest vote from the Paris town hall, which plans to triple the price of parking for heavy vehicles (1.6 tonnes for thermal and hybrid vehicles, 2 tonnes for electric vehicles), all with a duration limited to 6 hours for visitors at each location. It’s the private car parks that will be rubbing their hands. In other large French cities such as Marseille, Lyon or Toulouse, parking rental prices also remain high, oscillating between 101.60 and 151.50 euros per month on average.

Some cities more affordable than others

Some cities offer more affordable alternatives. In Strasbourg, for example, the average cost of renting a parking space drops to 58 euros per month, almost four times cheaper than in Paris. Likewise, in Rennes, motorists can find places for 68.50 euros per month on average.

In Bordeaux and Nantes, prices also remain relatively reasonable, with average parking rental costs of 91 and 75 euros per month respectively.
