Rivian R2: official presentation on March 7!

Could the R2 model be Rivian’s first electric SUV to arrive in Europe? The answer may come on March 7, 2024…

On social networks, Rivian has officially announced the presentation date of the R2 for March 7, 2024 via a brief animation lasting a few seconds. But what do we already know about the future model of the American brand?

The Rivian R2 is more compact and affordable than the R1S and R1T

Rivian has mentioned the R2 on the internet multiple times. The manufacturer even presented its shape for the first time on video, revealing that this R2 will be smaller and more compact than the current R1T pick-up and the SUV R1S. It will retain the same cubic and robust design as its larger counterparts. Due to its smaller size, this new model will also be more affordable, with a starting price in the United States ranging between 45,000 and 55,000 dollars. At the current exchange rate, this corresponds to an entry-level price of between €42,000 and €51,000. This is about $30,000 (€28,000) less than the R1S and R1T. However, despite the upcoming unveiling, the R2 is not expected to be available for purchase before 2025 or even 2026, which may affect its pricing.

Rivian soon in Europe thanks to its R2 electric SUV?

Rivian has long expressed its desire to introduce its vehicles to the European market, where electric vehicles are in high demand. So why has it not introduced the R1T and R1S, which are popular in the United States, to Europe? The reason is that Rivian believes that its first two models are too large for the European market. The R1S has a length of 5.1 m, and the R1T pick-up reaches 5.5 m in length, with both weighing close to 3.2 tonnes. This “slight” problem should no longer be an issue with the new R2 series!

Will the manufacturer market its new R2 in Europe? Nothing has been officially announced, but we may have the beginnings of an answer during the official presentation of the model on March 7, 2024. To be continued…
