E85: can hybrid cars run on ethanol?

Curious about whether hybrid cars can use E85, the popular fuel? We have all the answers for you!

Advantages of Hybrid Cars

As fuel prices remain high, more and more drivers are considering switching to more fuel-efficient engines. Electric cars are a popular choice, but not suitable for everyone due to recharging constraints. This is where hybrids shine, offering reduced fuel consumption without the limitations of electric cars. E85, a form of superethanol, is also gaining popularity due to its lower cost and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. It is produced from plant materials, making it a renewable energy source and highly advantageous.

Using E85 in a Hybrid Car

Yes, it is possible to operate a hybrid car using E85. Gasoline vehicles meeting Euro 3 standards and equipped with a multipoint electronic injection engine since 2000 are generally compatible with E85, including gasoline hybrid cars. However, engines running on E85 have higher consumption than gasoline engines and there are fewer service stations that offer them. Some cars may require a specific and expensive modification to run on ethanol. It’s important to check your vehicle’s compatibility before using E85 fuel.
